SHARE Family & Community Services is pleased to share that Foundry Tri-Cities has received a $10,000 City of Port Coquitlam Community Grants Fund Capital Matching Grant for Stories in Place: Foundry Tri-Cities Art Installation. This capital funding will support the design, creation, and installation of four permanent, site-specific art pieces throughout the new Foundry Tri-Cities space, co-created with local youth and families in partnership with local Indigenous artist Christine MacKenzie. Grounded in medicine wheel teachings, this work will help ensure that every young person and caregiver who walks through our doors is welcomed into a space that reflects their stories, cultures, and strengths. Through hands-on workshops, youth ages 12–24 and their families will collaborate with Christine MacKenzie to develop imagery, symbols, and stories that will be woven into the final artworks. The installations will include tactile wood-carved pieces in the lobby, watercolour canvases and acrylic works in the clinical counselling and primary health corridors, and mixed-media pieces in the peer, family, and Indigenous youth support areas. Together, these permanent works will create a more welcoming, calming, and culturally grounded environment that supports wellness and reduces stigma for the many Port Coquitlam youth and caregivers who will access Foundry Tri-Cities each year.
This project builds on a strong partnership with the City of Port Coquitlam and the Port Coquitlam Community Foundation, whose collaboration through the Community Capital Projects Matching Grant Program is helping to enhance a key youth-serving space in our community. We are grateful for this investment in youth mental health and wellness, and for the opportunity to embed community-led, Indigenous-informed art into the very fabric of Foundry Tri-Cities.
