Press Release: Remember the Food Bank Campaign 2
Coquitlam, BC, July 5th, 2016 – Join us on Saturday July 9th from 11 am – 2 pm for our “Remember the Food Bank” Open House! We’ll have tours of the food bank facility, fun activities for the kids like colouring, bubbles and Strike Out Hunger Bowling and a barbecue lunch (by donation) provided by our good friends at Save On Foods Pine Tree. The SHARE Food Bank is located at 2615 Clarke St (rear), Port Moody.
As the summer roles on, the shelves of the SHARE Family & Community Services Food Bank begin to get bare as our supplies dwindle. Hunger just doesn’t take a vacation! In order to keep providing food hampers to those in need in our community, SHARE will be hosting our annual “Remember the Food Bank” Summer Campaign. Help us raise 10,000 pounds of food and $10,000 to fill our shelves so we can continue to deliver hampers to the almost 400 individuals and families who look to SHARE to help each week!
“Most people think about donating to the Food Bank during the Christmas holiday season, but the Food Bank is a year-round operation. Come summer, our reserve of food starts to shrink and it is only through the wonderful generosity of the local community that we are able to restock the shelves and continue to provide food hampers up until the traditional giving season again.” says Director of Fund Development Valerie Hutton. She added “we also need to remember that many of our community’s children are participants in our school district breakfast and lunch programs, so with school out for the summer, the call to support these families is even greater. 37% of our food bank clients are children ages 0-18, a shocking reality in our community. The need is great and very real for many.”
